Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

I read this book last month and it broke me. Me Before You follows the short relationship of an apprehensive but quirky woman and a forward man that is in a wheelchair because of a spinal cord injury. Lou Clark has lived in that town all her life and never planned on pursuing an extraordinary life like most people dream...until she met Will. Will, before his injury, was a rich, adventurous man. He has stories about his travels around the world and his success as a businessman. This life was quickly ended by an accident he had, causing him to be paralyzed forever. The jump from him living on top of the world to relying on others for help made him severely depressed. His mother was looking to hire someone to help Will not go through with the assisted su*c*de and show him how life is worth living. That job was handed over to Lou, not only is she on a mission to help someone else, but this experience helps her find how her life is also worth living.

Sorry for the spoiler but after everything, Will still goes through with it. Lou and Will fall in love but the weight and pain of the injury sets his mind on the plan. Will doesn't want Lou to waste her life on him even when Lou is persistent of staying. Their relationship was so exhilarating to read especially since it was on a ticking time bomb. I genuinely thought it was going to work out and have a happy ending, but I was so wrong. I sat on my bed for a couple minutes sobbing and thinking what could have Lou done for him to stay. Lou had tried everything in her power for him to be happy but it was never enough. One of the things Will wanted was for him to make his own choices. With being paralyzed, he had no power, he wanted that back and this decision was the only power he had. Lou understood this towards the end but it still broke my heart.

Would I recommend this book? I don't know, it definitely left me broken but I've read so many not-so happy endings that there is definitely a book out there that hurts more. I heard the movie for this book is good so I might give that a try. Overall, it was a good read and I don't think I could give a rating for this book because I'm simply not sure what it would be.
