physical media collection

in february of this year i bought a handful of cds. they were from a semi-local record shop and i got them all for $1. i had only recognized one of the groups, the other three were all bands i had never heard of but their album covers caught my attention. i proceeded to find three fantastic new bands that have been integrated into my regular listening. since this, every time i am at a local record store or a donation shop i find myself perusing the cd racks. i generally won't buy anything over $10. i have found several local bands as well as bands that are not even google-able. i've found bands that exploded into obscurity and bands that still have thousands of monthly listeners. its become a very fun and fulfilling hobby. however, i failed to recognize just how much space cds tend to take up. i prefer to keep them in their original cases if possible, so pocket books are out of the question. eventually, im sure some of them will have to move into storage for new replacements. all the songs i enjoy the most have been added to my digital streaming platforms (which i am just now realizing might defeat the entire purpose..). but there are plenty of songs that i have not been able to find online. i have been considering uploading these songs to youtube, but just have not found the time to do so. i wonder if there are people that would be interested in this musical cataloging. at some point, i may make a blog post reviewing some of the cds i have found. if interest is taken in those, that might be the big push i need to upload the music online. i really do love collecting physical media. i probably have hundreds of books both in my room and in storage collectively. there is something so incredibly special about holding something you love in your hands. i am glad i chose to buy those cds. music has always been so very special to me and i hope i continue to find wonderful and obscure music.
