BUT WAIT! before you jump to conclusions. i love dogs I've always had dogs i always will have dogs so long as i am able. That being SAID my gripes come from the pro-dominance theory hoes (even if they dont know that's what they're spouting) and like idek how that theory became so popular in the first place, nonetheless has STAYED popular for sooo long, perhaps aside from the somehow appealing concept of being "in control"...? it just does not make any sense though, like it's not only wildly inaccurate but also incomprehensible. y'all saw cesar milan get cancelled eons ago (ik he's making a comeback but point stands) and you're Still falling for this ?! im looking at you self proclaimed animal trainers/behaviorists etc especially. the whole idea being based around this wacky concept of "respect" is so silly, if you think about it for more than 45 seconds it doesn't make sense. like what is respect then? is it the action of submitting to another's wants with complete disregard of your own? is it an emotion, a feeling of devout loyalty to another, putting their desires above your own? above your wellbeing? well if that's what it is i think it's bullshit and i think it's crazy that anyone would believe animals operate that way. this is dumbing it all down since ik misinformation is vast and deeply engrained and you can't fully blame the average pet parent for not understanding, but even then i just.. still don't understand how this concept has maintained such popularity, especially with loads of new and not at All new evidence against it. i attended a dog behavior class for work the other day expecting to learn Something legit, even if I didn't agree with all of it, but nope! instead i got this guy preaching how dogs need to do everything on our time, how harnesses automatically create pulling bc "that's what they were designed to do", and how it's ridiculous to expect people to work with their pet's needs in order to ensure EVERYONE'S utmost comfort and enjoyment by keeping them under threshold & rewarding wanted behaviors. took everything in me not to rip this dude a new one and make him look like more of a dumbass than i already had with the mere two questions i asked, neither of which he had answers for 😭
anyways. ultimately I'm hopeful with the state of the animal industry(ies) starting to have ethical practices become more commonplace with educational resources to back it up, but man... we still got a LONG ways to go.
also ik this goes for not just dog people but a Lot of animal people of any sort, I'm just sayin u don't tend to see cat ppl going around calling their cats dominant alphas who need to submit to their owners As Often as u see it with dog people (or even horse ppl for that matter but thats for another day)
rant over have a blessed day & treat yr animals kindly 🙏
