Album Review: Lil Uzi Vert - Pink Tape

This was an interesting listen (to me at least) because not only this is the first time I listened to an Uzi project in it's entirety, but also because how over the place this album is.

There's a lot of rock, rage, metal, etc infuences all over this album and barely feels like it's connected in any way. But god damn it, this album is (or at least it can be) dumb-as-shit fun. For example, the Chop Suey cover is so garbage, that it loops back around into being good. Or The End with Babymetal that feels like it's an anime opening for a batshit insane anime. Or Fire Alarm with Snow Strippers that is basically just Uzi's attempt at crunkcore and yet it's actually great. And I'm convinced that the Uzi put crack in the first 8 tracks, because that run is gonna be studied.

But the second half of the album (if we count the bonus tracks too) is where things start to get a bit worse for me. Like did we needed the last 2 bonus tracks (Zoom is good tho)? There's a 4 track run of 4 minute songs that's only half of them are good. And even then I would still cut them out. Also I'm starting to officially get sick of Just Wanna Rock.

Pink Tape is an album with high highs (even if some of those highs are just funny and nothing else) and very middling lows. But this could be album of the year material for me because I haven't heard an album where a shitty ass Chop Suey cover gets followed up with a glorified Bring Me The Horison song with 10% Uzi in it.
