my mother used to tell me this one when i was little

there was a man, an old, old man

they used to call him Bo, short for robert

now i never met the guy myself, but he was

in the pipes, in the drains

forever watching the waiting life go idly by

like a retired old man.

he let a content little smile sit on his face

at every sewer entrance, and boy,

too many toxins in his lungs
