the system I want to explain in this blog entry is big 5/OCEAN/SLOAN. it has three names I guess but most people just call it big 5. it consists of 5 personality traits that make up a person. openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism (O.C.E.A.N.). there are two words for each personality trait and you have to pick the word you relate to the most for each trait. you'll eventually end up with 5 letters.
extraversion: social and reserved
- social people enjoy being the center of attention. they tend to have wide social circles and they like meeting new people. social people find it easy to make new friends and they feel energized around other people.
- reserved people prefer solitude. they feel exhausted when they have to socialize a lot and they find it difficult to start conversations.
- limbic people get upset easily. they experience a lot of stress and mood shifts. they tend to feel anxious and they have trouble handling their emotions.
- calm people are relaxed and can handle stress easily. they are emotionally stable and they rarely feel depressed or sad.
- organized people complete tasks right away. they pay attention to detail and are often perfectionists. they enjoy having a set schedule.
- unorganized people procrastinate and forget details easily. they dislike schedules and struggle to set goals for themselves.
- accommodating people enjoy helping people and have high empathy. they tend to put others before themselves.
- egocentric people put themselves first and don't really care about others. they can be manipulative and insulting.
- non-curious people dislike change and abstract concepts. they resist new ideas and don't enjoy new things.
- inquisitive people are very creative and open to trying new things.
- if you don't relate to either of the traits of a type
- if you don't know which one you relate to yet
- or if you relate to both
you can put an "x". for example my big 5 is "xcoei", which means I don't know if I'm social or reserved.
- if you strongly relate to a certain trait, you can make it a capital letter.
- if you mildly relate to a trait, you can leave it in lowercase.
I strongly relate to c, o, and e, so my big 5 is "xCOEi". you don't need a specific amount of capital letters and you also don't need a specific amount of lowercase letters.
- put [x] around the letter you relate to the most.
- put /x/ around the letter you relate to the second most.
there can only be one of each in your big 5. note that some people use |x| instead of [x]. my "xCOEi" becomes "x/C/[O]Ei".
that's it! I hope this makes sense and if it doesn't, please tell me and I'll change/explain some things.
