pigeons!!

i love pigeons.

ik this is gonna sound stupid and no one rly thinks anything of pigeons, but i absolutely LOVE them. 

pigeons r one of my favorite animals and one of the cutest birds everr!!

one time, i was in this park where there were a tonnn of pigeons and it was so cute to just watch all of them walking around, flying, and sitting on the trees around the park. they all have such distinct personalities, just like us. it was so easy to find cute endearing traits in my family/friends in the pigeons! for example, my mom, shes always walking around on a mission ready to go, and there was this pigeon that was just walking around suuper fast bobbling its head everywhere. we both pointed out that it was like her and dieeedd laughing!!! it was so cuteeee!!! 

i love how they all have different personality traits, different ways their heads bobble, and different fur patterns. theres also soo many types of pigeons; theres big ones, small ones, bright colored ones, pale colored ones, etc etc!! theres pigeons everywheree!

noww some history on pigeons!! they started being domesticated sooo long ago, around 3000 bce according to britannica. they were bred and bred and bred, making a ton of different breeds of pigeons. but this also lead to many being bred so much that they cant even fly or live in the wild, kind of like the terrible breeding with pugs and pitbulls and the health problems that come with it. also in the 1800s there was a massive shortage of meat (?) and due to the pigeon population of 3-4 billion, ppl ate a ton of pigeons bc the meat was inexpensive and easily found. it lowered their population to around 300-400 million (pop. now). it also lowered a ton because of hunting and trapping pigeons for sport. 

the most common pigeon is the rock pigeon, which is the grey/blue pigeon u usually find in cities! theres also many doves in cities, especially from what ive seen in spain. my most favorite kind of pigeon is the pink headed fruit dove, which has a pink head and is most commonly found in indonesia!! they are not extinct at all and are rarely found in captivity!!
