A bit of Lore

I love writing stories, it's always been a favorite hobby of mine ! mostly when I was too lazy to listen in class

but nonetheless I always enjoyed bringing some of my imagination to life with these stories, and damn have I been writing them, I got 2 lore for my main OC, one that is quite old, and does not fit anymore, and a new one I'm currently making !

I hope I got better in story writing, as the new lore currently has 5 chapters with 14 pages, while the old had only 13 chapters with 32 pages of story.

I'm gonna show you guys the prologue and the first chapter, feedback appreciated !

Oskan's lore : an extract

Prologue – The Job Application

“Alright sir, everything is in order,” said the employer, taking one last glance at the file in front of him, carefully reading each detail again to make sure nothing was left out. “We will contact you shortly about the offer, keep a look on your phone”, he said as he rested the file on the table, looking right at the person in front of him : an average sized avali, with tarnished green feathering and pink eyes, wearing a slightly dirty coat along with a clean bandage on his nose.

The avali nodded and asked, “What is the application for again? It was not written on the documents you gave me and I-” the avali was cut by the employer’s deep voice: “You will know once you get accepted. This is simply protocol, now get out of my view, your coat stinks...” The avali’s ears flattened, offended by that insult, and ready to insult the man back, but instead he kept it to himself, simply saying goodbye before leaving the room.

Not even 10 minutes after he left the building, his phone rang, and a voice said, with that same monotone voice, “You have been accepted, go to the main building tomorrow at 6 in the morning. Do not be late.,” and before the avali could say anything the call ended. He looked back at the building: it was quite tall, with a strange absence of windows, and at the top, a billboard with an hourglass like shape and the writing “Skidma Inc.” next to it. For whatever job he applied to, he hopes he will succeed in his objective.

Chapter 1 – Waking up.

It has only been mere seconds since the alarm clock started beeping, its sound echoing through the room. Even the loudest of beeps could not make Oskan awake instantly, and after a few more seconds, the wolf’s ears would perk up, her bright pink eyes slowly opening. As she awoke from her sleep, taking the time to yawn and stretch while the alarm clock continued to beep endlessly, until its suffering was put to a rest by the simple click of its button.

The wolf sat on her bed, looking at her room, all the walls were metallic, with lights embedded right into them, giving it all a futuristic look. In a corner, her wardrobe with messily folded clothes tightly tucked in it (God knows how this all stays in place), and against the east wall, her desk, scattered with tools, notes and some prototypes for her projects. She got up to get a better look at where she left off last night, on her messy desk, one piece stood out from the other : a quite big screen mask (similar to protogen masks), like you would find on the SHIELD units of Mk.1, with several pieces of wire branching out of it into the wolf’s laptop.

Oskan chuckled when she saw the burn marks right below the mask, she was not that good at soldering and sometimes a fire would break out without her even powering the mask in the first place, she should really ask some help from a maintenance worker, but the thought of someone seeing her embarrassingly messy room was quite a burden to her. Sometimes the best help is the one you give yourself.

Without any more distractions, she got dressed up with a shirt, and good fitting pair of jeans and her trustworthy lab coat, which survived many failed experiments, retaining its pure whiteness (if you ignore a stain here and there): truly scientifically adapted apparel. And at a quick pace, she was already out of her room, ready to go to work.

As the wolf got out of her room, the residential sector’s artificial light was at sunrise settings, one of her favorites. The orange shine on her felt heartwarming, or was it the heater she was just under that was set way too high for that moment of the day? She did not ask herself any more questions, she needed to get at the cafeteria fast so she could get to work as soon as needed, she had important duties!

The road to the cafeteria was quite empty, with a colleague or two talking to each other, discussing about physics or chemistry, a security guard patrolling like each morning, or even a janitor cleaning up some mess along with an engineer repairing a broken heat sensor. She was quite of an early bird, impressing everyone with how late she went to sleep, but this routine was pleasing, hearing the occasional machine hums or the transportation trams starting, and not getting caught in the morning rush of everyone else waking up the same time.

Quickly enough, she arrived at the cafeteria: an average sized room, with round tables scattered around, and a lot of plants, more than it would be needed to make this room pleasing to see and come by everyday. She went to the self-serve part, and took a croissant along with hot chocolate, as she was repulsed by the bitter taste of coffee and the way it made your breath smell putrid: her worst nightmare would be to smell the same as her director’s breath.

Speaking of her director, he was too already awake, in the cafeteria, or did he even sleep? Oskan could not know as he looked the same after a day of sleep or a day of work. Indeed, the tall and pink-scaled anthropomorphic lizard always had some bags under his eyes, one being green, and the other glowed in an unnatural bright blue. The lizard’s scales were sometimes cut by large scars of an unknown origin, even for Oskan who was close to the old reptile.

Oskan was already seated at a table, enjoying her croissant while looking at her phone through the facility’s internal network, think of the internet but only inside the facility, which is for entertainment or work purposes. She was interrupted by the old Lizard seating at her table, speaking with a hoarse voice, he asked: “Hello there Oskan, up so early again ?”, Oskan’s ears perk up, as she look at the lizard and says with a smile : “Indeed sir, I need to be up early to not miss time on the project, the deadline is already closing in so soon and a lot of stuff needs to be done !”. The lizard chuckled, and answered : “Oh Oskan, first off no need to be so formal, you can call me by my name whenever we’re not working, and second, I’m pretty sure you’ve already did a lot of work already, don’t you want to take a break for a bit ?”, Oskan had a moment of thinking, before answering : “Of course Si-.. Chip, I can try to get up later, but this all is so important to me, first we discovered teleportation and time manipulation, who knows what else we could get!” she said with an excited tone, her tail wagging and her eyes filled with stars. The lizard chuckled again, this time ending it in a coughing fit, before he answered: “Your enthusiasm will never cease to impress me Oskan. Now I must get back to work, enjoy your breakfast!” before he got up, and left the cafeteria, not without a last cup of coffee.

Oskan watched the lizard go, and rapidly finished eating her croissant, and drinking her hot chocolate before getting up, throwing her cup in the bin, and got out of the cafeteria as people were arriving, she could not stand the noise of a full cafeteria. The wolf was on her way to her workplace, walking through the corridors of the facility with a quick pace, the artificial light was already changing to a steady white, and the corridors slowly getting more occupied by her other colleagues going to their workplace.

At her quick pace, she made it soon enough to her sector, the quantic time and space research sector. She scanned her badge, and the large metallic doors opened, with a creaking noise.
