Im a huge fan of old 80s-90s, early 2000s rock, or as some would say "dad rock". Sure some of it's been popularized through tiktok or whatever but i just genuinely enjoy old bands, bands that i know for a fact, my dad listened to at my age. As i type this i can see my dads old CD's right next to me. But i've surprisingly gotten a lot of backlash for listening to this kind of music, people saying that it's "weird i listen to it" or that "i dont really understand the lyrics" or the "importance of the band at the time". Should i not be able to enjoy the music i want too? Let it be known that those comments are from people my dads age, and people my age, so it's a very unfair demographic for me :( I jus wanna hear some feedback from you guys thats all, thank youuuu!! :)
Is it bad to listen to "dad rock"?

personally i love that genre too, but i would normally refer to it as classic rock. it was popular for a reason, but older people can feel protective over it because it means a lot to them so they don't want to see it trivialized by younger people for aesthetic reasons. honestly i'd ignore it if it bothers you. i've heard all the same things for years but typically i've found its just because of their emotional attachment to it, thats all.

dont worry about it!! listen to whatever you want to! Recently I saw someone refering to my chemical romance as dad rock which kinda terrified me but it doesnt really matter
these days term "dad rock" is more subjective some ppl (like me) say that AC/DC and guns n roses are dad rock but some other ppl will say that 2000s bands like blink 182 or sum 41 are dad rock so just dont worry about it and listen to whatever you like

Depends on what you mean by dad rock. It used to just mean shit like bon Jovi, whitesnake or whatever, but now I see kids your age associate it with everything like foo fighters, incubus, and blink 182. Really?? Those were kinda meant to be the opposite lmao. Anyways, none of these are bad to listen to it's just funny that what I grew up listening to is now considered dad rock by tiktok. If this keeps up in 10yrs fnaf music will be considered dad rock
