LISTEN TO MEEEEE one of my FAVORITE bands is Dropping Daylight and they were a sorta.. kinda... not really... "well known" band back in the mid 2000s. In 2006 they released their album Brace Yourself, and it's my favorite album ever, seriously.
So in the 2000s they tour/perform with bands like Flyleaf, Papa Roach, Green Day, Simple Plan, etc etc. They were even on Warped Tour for a few years! I'll link their MySpace page circa 2006 (via the Wayback Machine ofc) here, because it's very 2006 to look at lol
Then in 2010 they changed their name to Kidnap Kings and released an album named Flashing Lights & Sound. I can't find any info about this album online, so here's what I'm assuming: They self-released it with no label, and it possibly flopped? Maybe the fans they had didn't realize they changed names?
Idk, no matter what happened, my problem was that this album isn't on any streaming services. Not Spotify, not YouTube, not Soundcloud, not Apple Music. But my hope is not lost! A few years ago a fan uploaded the whole album to YouTube, in a single video. (The guy who uploaded the video said that it was leaked pre-release and that's why it was never actually released? IDK!)
So I, naturally, did what any sane person would do: I downloaded the whole thing and manually trimmed it into 14 audio files.
And then I did my best to transcribe every song, and make tacky lyric videos for them. (It felt fitting.)
The depths of my insanity are none of your business!! That took me 10 days and I'm 100% positive some of the lyrics are wrong. I tried!
...And then I uploaded the songs to archive.org. Because I believe that good music should be archived. And this album IS really fucking good. Here's the link where you can download the songs. Yes, this is absolutely a little shady and wrong of me, "stealing" a band's music to preserve it...
But I really stand by the fact that this band deserved better. And I would like to introduce their music to a new generation of SpaceHey emo kids, just like how their music was enjoyed by MySpace emo kids :)
oh and, if you were on myspace at that time and remember this band or have more info on them: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME! I BEG OF YOU! I BEG.
