Aaaa therapy and neurodivergency go brrrrr

Y’all, all of my therapists I’ve EVER had always suspected I may have adhd (I’m on my fourth therapist rn) and like my mother never even bothered to get me a proper diagnosis. Also btw she threatened to stop taking me to therapy if I don’t change my behavior like wtf am I doing wrong- also therapy is LITERALLY there to help me. My therapists say that without a proper diagnosis, they won’t know how to help me properly. Mother legit says that therapy is a waste of time, money, and gas even tho it’s only like once a week on Wednesdays for one hour (she absolutely hates taking me to therapy)

Idk

This...seems troublesome.

Therapy is not some little luxury. It is often someones only interaction with a person/system that attempts to improve their mental health.

Why does she think removing you from therapy will change your behavior? What behavior? Does she even explain herself about this? Threatening to take away a valuable resource to a child is not something a parent should do, imo. It will only make things worse.

If you might have ADHD, it may be a major life changing matter to get this diagnosed. You and (especially) your parents should take this seriously. Getting an ADHD diagnosis as an adult can be very hard. It's better to start sooner.

Thank you, I really appreciate and need it. Mother doesn’t think therapy helps me. I went to therapy for “behavioral issues”. My therapists all are very firm that it has something to do with me being neurodivergent. They suggested mother to get me tested for that but she never did and I’m not sure why. It may just be me, but at the same time I’m not sure. Again, I really appreciate it :)

Its sad that your neurodivergency is viewed as "behavior problems". Your needs and the resulting friction when accommodations are not provided should not be viewed as "behavior problems". It feels ableist...

I would definitely try to convince your mother of the importance of you getting diagnosed. The worst can happen is you know more about yourself ^u^.

You don't have to thank me, I hope things go well for you - take care!
