I've known Viizzy for like 4 years now, and I would consider him a really good friend who's both talented and blessed with music and instrumentation. That being said, I've only listened to one of his mixtapes fully, and that was VANARCHY RULZ, around the time it was first released.

Recently, I've been having the privilege to work on a project that hasn't been announced yet. And with that, I've listened to Viizzy's new tape when it was still in the process of being made. I have huge respect for artistry, so in preparation of writing this review, I listened to all of Viizzy's past projects that are currently available on Soundcloud. That part was fun lol. Anyways, let's get to the newest project by VIIZZYNVRDIIES.

In the past, VIIZZYNVRDIIES was never a stranger to genre changes. Each of his releases had many different personalities and he was never cornered into a single identity. CHANCE showcases Viizzy flexing his creative muscles and exploring a side that hasn't been explored yet. Pop is a stark contrast from his previous hardcore and heavier music, like in VANARCHY RULZ and V4VANARCHY. However, with songs like "Complicated" in his last album, it's not a complete breakneck turn. You just had to see the breadcrumbs to anticipate this direction.

"CHANCE" is VIIZZYNVRDIIES' seventh publicly available mixtape, featuring a total of 5 tracks. I'm gonna listen to each track and provide my opinion on them. Afterward, I'll present my little synopsis. Much love to Viiz, and please stream it while you read along! [LISTEN NOW]

                                            VIIZZYNVRDIIES - CHANCE

AGAIN

If this tape has anything, it has really fucking catchy hooks and choruses. This song immediately showcases the vibe and aesthetic of the rest of the tape. Whether you like it or not, the artist will take you on a ride, explaining his experiences of heartbreak and the anxiety of growing more isolated by the day. The song itself is incredibly catchy and serves as a great introduction to the chance he is taking with this new sound. Next!

BLAME

As much as I love this song, and I honestly do, I have to say that it has the most "mainstream" sound. It's just that the drumming and melodies sound a bit generic, almost like I've heard this song before, you know? Especially since I know how talented of a drummer Viizzy is, it makes the background instrumentation feel a bit boring compared to what I know he can do with his own set. Nevertheless, it's still a good song though. Im also judging this one soley on sound, the lyrics are obviously personal to him and im not discrediting the emotion in what he's saying.

RAIN

Ayyyeee, what can I say? It's his first song with drum n bass, LMAO. Nah, for real though, this is definitely a high moment compared to BLAME. This song is the most complete sounding song and carries itself very well next to the rest of the tracks on the tape. The hook is really catchy, and the verse's flow complements the instrumentals perfectly. Plus, the little drum breaks are fun. It's a really short song, but it's at the beginning of the hill that's only going up from here.

LIKE

"Like" is the first song I heard, and it's the one that catches my heart. "Like" is a really charming song that carries an uplifting vibe that deserves and NEEDS to be blasted on loud-as-fuck speakers. I don't know how to explain it, but with these massive heat waves hitting Rhode Island, it's been really fun just putting this on, lighting a joint, and enjoying the summer heat. It's definitely my summer song for sure.

FEEL

Imma keep it real and pull back the curtain real fast. This tape wasn't supposed to come out so soon, but you didn't hear that from me. With that being said, this song was the last one to be added, so I had the least amount of time to listen to it. At first glance, it feels like a retelling of the song BLAME. Similar topics, but with a different delivery. That's at least my interpretation. I think, at this moment, I actually like this song more than BLAME though.

It's a bittersweet ending to a tape that I hope VIIZZYNVRDIIES can be proud of. I sure enjoyed it. I think this will be a slow burn in terms of numbers. With this being VIIZZY's first release of the year and admittedly rushing the release, I still believe these will be some of his most memorable tracks for both new and old fans. It's a crazy road of progression, but this is just another addition to an already great discography. Plus, who said this was it for the year? Rumor has it that VIIZZYNVRDIIES is planning another drop this year, but you didn't hear that from me, for real, for real.

Really good tape, catch me when I record a music video for one of the tracks here. Wait, has that been announced yet?

Editors Note:
VIIZZYNVRDIIES: "Real quick, I also wanted to say that in FEELS. That was about my experience with the hardcore scene. Give it another listen with that in mind.
