growing up in a christian household (trying to be very vague) with a parent who started a church it’s very hard for me to avoid the topic of religion on a daily basis. i’m agnostic atm but have to attend church every week and my life gets on blast on stage since my parent talks about our lives a lot (and often time is not fully truthful). i can’t say i have “religious trauma” but it definitely has had a negative effect on my relationship with that parent and my relationship towards religion and God. anyways i’m lucky because the christian’s i’m usually around are VERY accepting and positive toward most people. its a bit of a culture shock online when christians are SO INSANELY NEGATIVE. this problem really presented itself to me when i started getting into online arguments for fun and to have a debate. i make it a point (at least in recent years) not to insult the person behind the screen or to comment on their actual profile because that changes the nature of the debate from fun to personal. apparently many devout christians online do not have the same filter. it’s insane to me how many “spread positivity ✝️, love thy neighbor” people are so hateful. its not very convincing for someone to join your religion and “save their soul” when you’re telling them there’s “a special place in hell for you” or commenting on their looks or personality. for all religious people, it’s not hard to be positive. honestly that goes for everyone. (not all christians are mean, that goes for basically every religion)
rant abt people using their religion to be negative
