This past year I have had some major issues regarding my mental health, mostly at the hands of an abusive family member whom, thankfully, no longer lives with me and whom I am no longer in contact with. I'm not ready to go into depth regarding that here, but doing these colorful sketchbook entries really helped me through some tough days and I want to share some of my favorites. These are all based on DTIYS ("Draw This in Your Style") prompts I've found on Instagram and Twitter. I hope you enjoy!
This was a prompt from ifoundyoufaker on Twitter. I happen to be a big fan of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, ever since I was a child when I got my first Sega Genesis with Sonic 2 as my first game. I also used to draw in this style quite a lot when I was a kid so it was nice to be able to do that again.
This was a prompt from Auprier on Instagram. I really liked the look of this DTIYS because it spoke to me in how beautiful and emotional it was. I decided to change the expression of this subject, though, because of how sad I was feeling at the time and I thought having her emote like this would add to this piece.
This was a prompt I found from Jansumalla on Instagram. What can I say? I love to draw fairies! Also, I loved how colorful and cute the design of this character was. I decided to change up her pose and add her footwear, however, because, well, I felt like more was needed.
Last but not least...
This is a prompt from Karopiet I found on Insta that was created for "Mermay." I really liked the look of this character in how simple her design is. I thought freckles would look cute on her too, so I added them. I think this is the first ever actual "Mermay" piece I've ever done, honestly, and I really like how it turned out.
I hope you enjoyed looking at these as much as I did drawing them. If you'd like to try your hand at these prompts, I've linked them in the names of the artists who created them. Thank you for taking the time read and look! If you'd like, please leave a comment below on which is your favorite. Kudos are appreciated too!
Also, special shout-out to my new friend, Panopticon Sys, for their suggestion to use File Garden as an image host. This has helped so immensely. Thank you so much!
