any other koi fish enjoyers out there?

Hi!! I'm rex and i love koi fish!

i cant find any active forums or groups online for koi fish and the culture around them, and i want to meet more people online who also share a love of these beautiful fish :)

I one day wish to have my own koi pond or go to a koi show, but as of right now i am too young and i cant afford it. I want to learn all there is about koi, im currently hyperfixating on them lol

While i'm here, i want to ask anybody who can answer, is keeping these fish in a pond and selling them/breeding them/collecting them as a hobby bad for the fish? I would like to get into this hobby in the future but im worried i'm partaking in hurting the fish or abusing the fish?

Thank you!!!

here's an article to help about the ethics of koi breeding : https://www.koinet.net/j/index.php/articles/ornamental-fish/107-the-ethics-of-koi-breeding

i'm not too knowledgable on koi fish unfortunately but taking into account ethics of animal breeding in general, it really depends on where you stand on the matter. for me personally, i would just keep them as is and not sell them because i don't want to get into pet selling business - but that's more of a personal preference. what matters most is to learn proper care and breeding techniques than to simply farm them so you can have more.

another tip is to keep koi fish in their own (spacious) pond. as with any pet fish, they're invasive species and sending them to a random pond or lake is very dangerous to the ecosystem they don't belong in.

last tip is to, of course, consult professionals and to contact one if youre interested in breeding and selling your fishes.

i wish u and ur future koi fishes well!!! ^_^
