A thought process on pain

Thinking about this right now

Back when I was like maybe 14/15 or so these kinds of artworks were pretty common, at least in the community's I was in.

Like, I did not even really seek them out, but when I searched for some nice portal fanart I would often find art of a humanoid Wheatly? Dressed like a scientist holding a knife or having lots of blood on him. I might be misremembering things here but these kinds of stuff were pretty common to see, and not even just on the internet but also in RL I had a few friends who would write stories full of pain and torture and death.

And I just wonder, looking back, what a strange generation we were/are..

I mean, what kind of pain must someone be feeling to make this sort of art, I mean, there seemed often such a deep and strange fascination with blood and pain.. but the thing is, looking back they never truly hurt anybody but themselves, like I think the artists wanted to express their own suffering and feelings, and I just wonder, what kind of pain does it take for someone to be so deeply suffering?

Hm, just a train of thought I had when I saw the gif I added at the top. 

Oh and my friends are fine, at least those I am still in contact with are doing good, I think they grew out of it eventually... Or maybe they just got therapy
