Ready Player One - book vs movie adaptation

Ok, so hi. First time writing about anything so excuse that.

Anyway on to the topic; Ready Player One - book vs movie adaptation.

Now personally, I was introduced to ready player one by my dad. He put on the movie and showed it to me, and I instantly fell in love with the characters, the plot, the themes and design of the movie. So much so that I got the book a couple days after and read it in a day.

Both are unique and wonderful in there own way but I honestly think that the movie could have incorporated more of the book. If you've already read the book (or watched the movie ) you'll understand what I mean, but if you haven't then I'll explain now. SPOILERS AHEAD AND BRIEF EXPLANATION OF PLOT.

Ready player one is about life of Wade Watts, the protagonist of the book series, and how life is in the 2040's. It describes the difficulties he has to face in a corrupt world where global warming and energy crisis has severely impacted everyone, including world hunger and wars over remaining natural resources. The only good thing that has come out of all this mess is the creation of the Oasis.

The Oasis (Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation) is an immersive simulation created by James Halliday, and co-owned by Ogden Morrow. The simulation is owned by Gregarious Simulation Systems. The Oasis is basically advanced VR that becomes a way for people to escape from their lives.

After the Oasis becomes too much for Ogden Morrow, he leaves Gregarious Simulation Systems and sells all ownership to Halliday.

Many years after the Oasis' creation, James Halliday died and released a short film titled Anorak's invitation'. The short film announced a contest to win James Halliday's fortune and ownership of Oasis as he died with no heirs. The competition is to find 3 keys, the copper key, the jade key, and the crystal key. With these three keys you could obtain Halliday's Easter egg. When you receive the egg you win the competition. To find the keys you need to interpret rhymes about things associated with the 80's. Each rhyme leads to a challenge that you must defeat.

And that's about all im going to explain (but I would definitely recommend reading the books and watching the movie) as it would be too long to do and this is where the 1st book and movie start to change.

In the first book, challenges are all niche (or more niche) things from the 80's that also are part of Halliday's childhood, for example; the first challenge is a Dungeons and Dragons module called the Tomb of Horrors.
The first challenge in the ready player one movie however, is an intense race, and the key to solving it is looking through Halliday's Memories (a service provided in the Oasis -only in the movie- where Halliday's memories are created into 3D models that can be viewed from different angles while playing).

The situation for the rest of the challenges are the same. In all honesty, Ready Player One the movie is simply a  rewrite of the book. Even big events in the book such as Daito's death are not included in the film. Now don't get me wrong I still love the movie, I'm just annoyed that the book to movie adaptation does not contain more of the book, such as more 80s references, more details such as Wade's love for Artemis' blog (briefly mentioned in the movie), and more of the characters personality, as the movie only portrayed H as some random friend of Wade instead of one that greatly supported Wade.

And that concludes my very, very interesting opinion on Ready Player One hahaha.
