Hair (and hot weather)

I think it would be a good idea for me to cut my hair for the summer, my hair goes way past my shoulders now so it kind of feels like I'm wearing a scarf when the weather is super hot. The only problem is, I don't know what I'd even do with my hair at the moment and I actually really enjoy the current length I have. Do I 'suffer' for the sake of my appearence or should I go for something shorter and not cook myself to death?
