Project TiredGas Drift - #2 "Problems and a BIG Discovery"

if you haven't read the previous blogs you can take a look at the list -> PROJECT TIREDGAS BLOG LIST

Two months have passed since the last blog, summer has begun and there are those who are enjoying their holidays, those who have started their summer job, those who are studying for scholastic debts, there are those who dive into the sea and those who travel towards the big cities, then there's me, Luca and Daniele who are still looking for a job...

But let's say it's me and Daniele who lose our minds looking for a job, Luca helps his father a carpenter but he doesn't have a very good paycheck...
it's not possible that nobody in Salento (Salento is a territory in southern Italy) has some work for 3 boys, usual excuses are "we can't take minors" "we already have enough minors working with us" "we'll let you know, leave us contact details (they will never call back)" etc etc.

At this rate we can afford BMW only in dreams...

but hopes are not completely gone yet, I have a list of many other possible jobs to contact.

I spent sleepless nights with the fear of not being able to fulfill our summer dream, with envy at seeing younger guys on the internet afford drift cars and suitable methods for learning drift... but these guys already have a foundation, and they are accompanied by the help of people with experience, while we literally start from 0

Anyway today a great thing happened, Luca and i made a big, HUGE discovery

today we went to play basketball, and after playing we walked around the suburbs of our town,
I said to Luca
"i would like to find an abandoned car in an abandoned place or a good car in a junkyard to use for our project".
by the way we saw a beautiful modified Fiat Coupe, and walking on the same street we came across an abandoned house still under construction for who knows how many decades,
from the sagging door of this house we were amazed at what we were seeing.

Our Discovery an Italian Muscle Car

At first impact I thought it was a Fiat 128 but I doubted it, I checked and it was a Fiat Dino, I had never seen a car like this,
an Italian Muscle car ... I only rarely heard of this model,
so for sure it was something big and rare.

We had the courage to try to enter and check, behind the house it was not possible to enter because the wild plants and the very tall grass prevented access from the back.
We then tried to enter through the main door, there was no lock, no padlock with a chain, just a wire tied between one door and the other, I untied the wire and we went in to have a look,
The car is in apocalyptic condition but with some money and time to dedicate to it we can start it, drive it and drift it,
we will fix the bodywork at a later time.
Returning to the moment, I went to check out what was under the hood
and that's where my jaw dropped

A V6 !?!?

IT'S A V6 ENGINE, ok I know, some parts are missing BUT IT STILL REMAINS A V6, we will find the spare parts for the missing parts or we will make a reconstruction of the missing piece.
i was shocked i thought i was dreaming, just minutes before i said how i wish i could find an abandoned car in an abandoned place to use for our project AND HERE IT IS

After having glances here and there at the car and the abandoned house we walked out of that house and I started researching on Google the Fiat Dino,
It is called Dino in honor/memory of Enzo Ferrari's son, Alfredo "Dino" Ferrari, who died prematurely at 24 years old.
So the Fiat Dino was born from an agreement between Fiat and Ferrari
It was produced between 1966 - 1973
and a few Fiat Dino were produced, around 7600 (and who knows how many of these Fiat Dino ended up in junkyards...)
well... in terms of engine, I discovered that the V6 is a 2.0 liter FERRARI

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO ABANDON A RARE CAR WITH A FERRARI ENGINE

However it is rear-wheel drive (Frontal Engine) with 5 manual gears, it produces 158 HP at 7200 rpm and the maximum speed is 200km/h, in our era it seems not very powerful for this type of car, but in the 60s-70s it was one of the Italian sports cars (I'm not including super cars, just sports cars) more performing.
It's perfect to use as a drift car, although it looks unusual to take to a drift track day

Fiat Dino

The people who live in front of this abandoned house are relatives of  Luca, they will certainly know whose car it is.

So our plan is this
- ask whose car this is and trace the owner
- contact the owner
- negotiate with him kindly and respectfully so that he gives us the car, the car is destined for the junkyard anyway so he shouldn't have any problems giving it to us.
- once we get the car for free, we work and when we have enough money to fix it mechanically we start fixing it.

But as Daniele said before the problem is to find work to have the money to fix it... but for now the important thing is to get that car

if our plan doesn't work and we can't get the car we go back to the starting point, to buy a BMW 3 Series E46
if instead we manage to get the car and we are not able to fix it we will give the car away and get some money to buy the BMW (or we keep the Fiat Dino project on hold and continue the one with the BMW)

wish us good luck and
STAY TUNED
