is little mermaid by rob marshall that bad?

rob marshall was the director of my favorite movie(memories of a gueisha) and i just saw he did the new movie of little mermaid and a lot of friends told me it wasnt a good movie but now im curious to watch it and know if he just

know if he fell into decay as a director or if the film is better than they think and was just underestimated

as far as I know, rob is a more "graphic" director than others so maybe its not such a good movie in terms of development or other things but it certainly shouldn't be as bad as people think
