i know a lot of people consider mcr emo music and some don't, and some people think fob is emo and some dont, even tho they were both in the emo holy trinity,,,, so what do u guys think :P
p.s i want to start using spacehey blogs more but i dont reallyknow what to post about LOL

I think any music that's very emotional is emo and people who try to claim bands like mcr and fob aren't emo are just kind of dumb lolz

Emo is basically just depressing punk music. It started out with bands like Rites of Spring in the 80s, continued in the 90s with bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, and blew up in the 00s with bands like Taking Back Sunday and The Used. There's also Mall Emo, which is more of a culture defined by music than a genre. This is where bands like FOB, P!ATD, and Paramore got lumped in with emo, even though they're more pop-punk leaning. Some people still consider this emo, but I would disagree.
As for MCR, they started out as an emo band, but by the Black Parade, they were more of an alternative/pop-punk band.

Tbh I consider a song emo if it's heavy in emotion bc that's what emo is after all

"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE

imo its annoying when people try to claim there's some specific sound that is "emo" like, to me emo music is just whatever i listen to when im feeling emo. tand that ranges from sleeping with sirens to american football to boundaries, so.
