Dreams.

Dreams were considered proof of the gods and a spirit realm since dreams were involuntary and emotionally vivid experiences that involved the dreamer's soul encountering other beings including long deceased relatives and so on. Dreams have therefore played a major role in the historical evolution of religions. 

Sometimes the dreams we have seem so real. Most of the emotions, sensations and images we feel and visualise are those that we can say we have seen or experienced in real life. This is because the same parts of the brain that are active when we are awake are also active when we are in certain stages of our sleep.

All of the worlds religious traditions have pointed to dreams as spiritual events of extreme importance in the transformation of the self and with respect to communication with the spirit world.
Dreams are often about identity, because we are figuring out who we are and what we need, and the beliefs and the perspectives we hold. They reveal critical aspects about ourselves.

At this time there is little scientific evidence suggesting that dreams can predict the future. Some research suggests that certain types of dreams may help predict the onset of illness or mental decline in the dream, however.
