Internet Safety on Spacehey! (PSA)

!!Many of you are not making good choices on here!!

I recently came on this site and notice that there are many different kinds of people on here, all of different ages which is important to note. I hope that this blog will help ya'll understand internet safety better.

Before I do get into any tips on being safe on social media though I also want to talk about how this isn't a safe website to chat on like some of ya'll treat it as. If you take a glance at the top blogs you'll see countless blogs about how groomers are on this site. This is the main reason I'm making this if I'm being honest. It really sucks to see young teens (which you should be at least 13 to use spacehey) get caught up with older groomers and pedophiles on this platform. It also sucks to see how easy it is for freaks to get on this platform but I can't do anything about that, so all I ask is support blogs exposing these freaks, and report anyone who expresses their interest in talking to minors etc. etc. (This is also about how to avoid getting doxxed I hope this helps, excuse my rambles.)

Avoiding Groomers

If you join this site as a minor to avoid getting groomed here are some simple tips.

  1. Keep you're dms to friends only
  2. Look at the profiles of people who friend request you
  3. If someone comes into your dms and ask for your age first block them
  4. If someone dms you with very sexual messages block them (Like duh tbh)
  5. Don't join groups where people post sexual things (Its not worth it)

Honestly these are really simple but as someone who's been groomed multiple times if I just followed this list I could've avoided a lot of pain.

Avoiding Getting Doxxed

It's kinda surprising but I'm putting this here bc one of my friends got doxxed.... (Not on here but like still)

  1. Don't ever put your city in your bio (Anyone can see that and if you get in hot waters with drama and post photos of yourself on your profile it will be used to find you!!)
  2. Don't tell people you don't know where you live, it is almost always malicious when people ask you those sorts of questions!
  3. Don't photos of local landmarks where you live. (If you went to Paris and post a photo of the Eiffel Tower I don't see an issue but don't post about your neighborhood or school.)
  4. Avoid talking about any big events that have happened in your area too like storms or floods, because if you post about those you are likely giving away your city which narrows things down for doxxers.
  5. If you want to post selfies or pictures of yourself I would keep them private as anything in the background could give away your location, personally I don't support young teens posting selfies of themselves because of pedos but I can't control that, I can only advise.

Honestly if you are the kind of person who loves to blog about their hometown and these seem too militaristic for you I recommend keeping your account or blog post to friends only, but then to be mindful of who you add. Don't just add randos without thinking it can lead to trouble if it's an alt of someone malicious!

Misc. and Other Good Tips to Follow

These either fit into both categories or are some real truths you gotta follow to stay safe on here.

  1. Tell your parents you're on social media like this, add them if you can, and always tell them who's talking to you who you don't know. Im not saying let your parents read every single dm or look at every person before you friend them but it's important for parents to be aware and keep kids safe online. I could make a million of these blogs and scream off the rooftops how important it is to be mindful of what you do on the internet, but if parents aren't more attentive kids are going to hurt. Remember, a strong support system in real life is the most effective in supporting kids. (When I say kids I mean teens)
  2. This one may seem farfetched but invite people you know in real life to join sites with you so you can keep an eye out for each other. I recommend doing this if you don't have attentive parents and have a good friend support system. (I want to make this attainable for people who don't have good parents.)
  3. Think before you post, this doesn't have to do so much with safety but I thought I'd this here because online bullying is very real. Before making a blog about someone, or even a group of people, think! Will what you say make people feel hurt? It may seem stupid and some of you may say "Don't look at it if you don't like it!" the fact is that even if you do say that people are still going to look at the post. When you post something you have to take accountability for how that affects other people. So when you post a hate rant about another user because of personal beef, or even make a post with bigoted under tones are you making a positive online space? If the answer if no either don't post it or keep it to your diary. I know this is much but I've had a friend who took their life because of online bullying, when I see post like the ones I mentioned I am disgusted!!!
  4. Gore I understand there are some user on here who are popular for posting gore and are controversial figures on the site. Personally I don't like to see unexpected gore on my timeline, so when people make post such as "New art work so kawaii!!!" and I click on that shit to see a drawing of a girl with her ribs cuts open it irks me. I like horror but don't bait people into looking at your sick hobby. Also if you have gore on your profile code a t.w into that shit "But I don't know how T.T"  There are so many tutorials on here so you really don't have an excuse.

That concludes my mini PSA I hope you learned from this and even If you don't follow it to the T and only take some of these tips I really do appreciate it. Internet safety and etiquette is something I am very passionate about and maybe I'll post a good netizens guide or smth. Once again I really do hope this helps anyone who's been struggling recently and wish ya'll a good rest or your week!

(I am sorry for any typos English is not my first language haha ^^)
