The Godfather II (I finished it!)

Well I finished the second Godfather movie and it was really great, I loved it! I can definitely say that I liked this movie more than I liked the first one. While the first one isn't bad by any means, I think this second one really makes me like Micheal more in the second one. I think it's just because the first movie doesn't really give you a lot of time to get to know Micheal as a person or a character. You're too busy wanting to know about the "real" Godfather, that you don't care about his son he's off loading his criminal empire onto.

And now that I've watched The Godfather I kind of can pinpoint where other characters have been inspired by him in a way, and it doesn't really make sense to me how so many people could have watched a movie about a man's life falling apart and come out of it thinking "Gee what if he was like, a total badass, and everything went right?"

Micheal starts off as this innocent little angel who's a war hero, who's reluctantly accepted the mantle of "Godfather". And by the end of it, he's a shell of the man he once was. Everything went wrong for him, and I can't think of how else things could've went better for him. I think what hurts the most is the fact that even in the end he couldn't truly forgive his own brother. He couldn't forgive his wife. His mother passed away with a family that was torn apart, his sister hadn't seen him in ages, and his only other brother was killed years ago.

And none of his mafia deals worked out. All these other unforseen things happened that fucked everything up. And to make matters worse, no one respected him or saw him truly as a threat. In a way, once Don Vito died, the "family" died in the eyes of the rest of the mafia world. No one respected Micheal and he just had to deal with it all. I think that's why he couldn't forgive Fredo in the end. Fredo wanted "respect" so much he turned on his own brother to "help himself". A brother that practically handed him a life that he would trade in a heartbeat. Micheal wishes he was just some casino/club owner in that moment, and Fredo sold him to his worst enemy instead of being in Micheal's shoes.

And his marriage failed because of the job he was thrusted into. His dishonesty and inability to trust his own wife with his troubles led to her hating him, and he couldn't forgive her for having that abortion. He spent ages hating himself over it and just added that silently to the list of big fuck ups on his end. He probably thought the stress of all the mafia business was getting to Kay even if she didn't "know" anything, so he hated himself over that. And then to find that it wasn't even that? That the reason they lost the baby was because she got rid of it herself because she hated him for not being honest from the jump, and lying to her face the entire time they were married about everything? Ugh.

And that ending man, that shits gonna haunt me forever. The way he's just sitting at the table alone while everyone celebrates in the other room. He was always alone, and it's clear in that scene that he was truly the only one who had the most stress put onto his shoulders. He becomes a monster by the end of the movie, a man completely unable to forgive or forget.

I feel sad. I'm sad now :(

Idk if I'll watch Part 3 because I heard it's bad lol this ending is really good I mean i could be totally content to never watch the third movie atp.
