A part of me understands why Micheal did what he did, but also I understand why Kay felt so betrayed by him. The man lied to her his whole marriage. he kept things from her that he had never even bothered to share. Like does Kay even know about the other woman in Sicily? Or that he married that other woman? Does she know anything about Micheal at all really? And I can understand how a woman can fall out of love with a man who lies to her all the time, and who won't even be honest with her about the traumas of his past.
Like I get Micheal didn't want her to know about the family and their dirty dealings, because she'd not only be a liability but also a targetΒ on his back. He did it because if she knew, people could use her against him and stuff. But there were certainly some things he didn't have to hide from her, that he absolutely hid just because they might have been too painful for him to share. And I think because he never allowed himself to open up to her the entire time they were married, that was what led her to eventually having the abortion.
At first she probably just hated that he lied, but the more he lied the more obvious it was to her. There's lying, and then there's treating the person you claim to love like some kind of fool. And that can lead you to just downright hating the man you married. And knowing that he'd not only continue to lie, but that he'd turn whatever son you had into a man like him? A man who lies to his own wife straight to his face, who treats her like a fool, who kills people for "business" etc?Β
