Man I feel bad for Micheal. All the things he planned went completely south, and half the issues that happened weren't even his fault. He couldn't have known his brother was gonna betray him, he couldn't have guessed the Cuban Revolution ending the way it did, he couldn't have predicted any of that. And yeah he did tell that old white dude in Cuba that the rebels would win (which was why he was so hesitant to even send his investment) but nobody ever trusted in him. Everyone in Cuba kept seeing him as a weaker version of his dad. This Roth dude literally attempted to murder him in his own home, and Micheal can't even get revenge properly or fix any of what's happening in Cuba because there's literally no Cuban government anymore.
And to top it all off, his wife miscarries and they don't even get to know the gender. At first I thought it was selfish of Micheal to ask "Was it a boy" because it almost seemed like he was disappointed in not having a "proper" heir. But then I remembered that conversation he had with Kay in the beginning of the movie while they were dancing. Kay wanted a boy. He was asking that because he needed to know just how much bad news was really about to relayed to him. Like how sad is his wife now T_T.
The man didn't even get to spend new years with his adopted son for crying out loud. He can't take a vacation and relax because that old man Roth is trying to murk him at every turn.
