Everything has been resumed to wearing "differently", some pale make up w eyeliner and listening to some half a dozen goth band sometimes.
The politics, the philosophy, the fight against discrimination of minorities, etc...
Sometimes even resumed to one more type of "fashion", showing that capitalism and consumerism took ownership of the values of the subculture. Also with lots of misinformation spread by social media, plus extra-valuing the aesthetics. It's really sad for a subculture as poetic and rich as the goth.

I blame places like Hot Topic selling out to Disney and pushing bright colored brand merch and the occasional safe goth fit. I guess it's not profitable to sell to the apathetic

Ive recently really been trying to submerge myself in goth culture as I love the music and have been listening for a while now, but everywhere I turn there is people calling themselves 'goth' but they're just dressed like an e-girl. it annoys me a lot even as a babybat due to the fact that even tho I'm new I have a way better understanding of what it means to be goth. A subculture with such rich literature, aesthetics, lifestyle, and so much more.

omg this!! I'm a babybat but at least I've taken the time to educate myself about what is and isn't goth. I'm really tired of seeing people who obviously haven't researched what 'goth' actually is calling themselves goth when they don't even like the music. It's pretty irritating

anytime anyone says x scene is dead, i always tend to take it with a grain of salt. punk's not dead, metal's not dead, etc.
but goth is def different. goth's heyday was in the 80's and nothing new has kind of revived it like numetal and pop punk did (yeah not the same thing, but these genres acted as a gateway for new, younger fans to find more shit). goth has always been a smaller scene than most alt subculture. even now: it's easy to find local metal and punk shows, but god knows when the last time a goth night was held in my city... i think the future of goth really is online unless people actively try and create community again.

calling for someone to make a goth website where goths congregate right now. like vampire freaks back in the day. id love to see something like that. they had goth music reviews and so much more. i hope goth finds a way to stay alive

It's the internet and social media bro. It's had a big impact on the goth scene, for sure. On one hand, it's great because goths from all over the world can connect and share their interests. But on the other hand, it's kind of fragmented the community. It's like, online interactions lack that real, in-person connection that goths used to have. So, the sense of belonging and solidarity just isn't as strong, and people aren't as motivated to actively be part of the subculture~(¯▿¯)~

kids that use the word goth have no idea what it means generally … it’s a shame that so many subculture spaces have been so completely taken over by uneducated posers since the post-tiktok wave
it still lives on though, if u know where to look — shows r a gr8 place 2 meet friends !!!!!!
