nothing is an excuse to be homophobic but people who use the bible as an excuse are so dumb. like okay the bible indirectly said that homosexuality isnt normal once but the bible also says:
marrying a non virgin woman is wrong (leviticus 21-13:14)
approaching disabled people is wrong (leviticus 21-18:21)
fighting back if youre abused is wrong (matthew 5:39)
eating pork or seafood is wrong (leviticus 11:9-12)
playing football is wrong (leviticus 11:7-8)
killing non virgin women is okay (deuteronomy 22:20-21)
litteraly eating the flesh of your own child if you disobeyd god in any way is okay (leviticus 26:27-30)
abusing children is okay (psalm 137:9)
women being teachers, having a leaderrole or having athority in any way over men is absolutley not okay (timothy 2:11)
and im not trying to be disrespectful in any way but i dont give a fuck what youre 2000 year old book says about me being gay, it wasn't my choice

Even when they are tolerant, it's not the same as acceptance. Even if it was a sin at the time, it's simply yet another rule that is irrelevant to modern society.
The other poster was right about the context - I wrote a bit about it in my own blog titled How Sin Becomes Outdated - but basically, there is no longer a practical reason to condemn homosexuality now that our population has soared into the multi-billions and our life expectancy is triple that of the ancient desert people.
Maybe at a time when infant mortality was at a significant historical high and people often died near 30 did we need to ensure everyone mated with children for the sake of the fragile community.

As a more newer Christian I will say some of those bible quotes are taken out of context. Anyways, I do beleive homosexuality is a sin (we have to ofc) but id never go to the extent of being homophobic. I just dont commont on it. And the christians who are homophobic need to realize its also a sin to judge or hate someone. The fact that some Christians are in a "phobic" catagory is crazy and I KNOW God would dispise that. Im sorry theres people that treat you bad
