hi everyone!! I'm going to talk about rats because they are one of my favourite animals, I love them so much ><
rats are animals with a great capacity for survival, adaptation and reproduction. They are super intelligent creatures. a rat can give birth to up to 16 offspring after 3 weeks of gestation. In addition, they become sexually mature 40 to 60 days after birth.
okay, let's start with the curiosities ☆
1. rats can detect poison by smell, which makes it easier for them to survive much longer. isn't that so cool?
2. they have dichromatic vision, which means that they see the world in black and white practically; therefore, setting traps for them of certain colors is useless, they are guided mainly by smell and taste.
3. certain types of rats can float in water for up to three days and hold their breath for about three minutes. in addition, some species can swim more than 1.60 km. (and the stories about rats appearing in toilets are not an urban legend, they can easily climb up your pipes xd).
4. rats are revered in some cultures. a temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess Karni Mata in northwest India houses more than 15,000 rats. these rodents are worshiped and protected, and the temple's human devotees believe that when they die, they will be reincarnated as rats.
5. rats do not sweat like humans, nor do they pant to relieve heat like a dog. on the contrary, rats control their body temperature by expanding and contracting blood vessels in their tails (reminds me that dogs sweat through their pads, which is why their paws smell like cheetos).
rats can also give up the skin covering their tails to survive, so if you ever catch a rat, don't grab it by the tail (unless it's a situation that requires it, in which case grab it by the base of its tail).
6. a rat's teeth never stop growing. rats are known for cracking things. their teeth can grow up to 12 cm per year. they have to chew things to wear them down. apart from wood, rats can also rotate lead, concrete blocks and aluminum sheets.
7. they are sociable creatures. most types of rats live in communities, where they groom each other, sleep together, and even play. however, they are territorial, so they can become aggressive with unknown rats. so if you are planning to have rats as a pet, make sure you get 2 or more!!
8. rats can laugh. when rats play, they experience a kind of "social joy." The result? they laugh, though not a cordial laugh like you would hear from a human, they emit a sharp chirp. (I can corroborate, my rodents even snore > <!!).
9. rats can fall from more than 20 meters in height without any injury. They can jump up to a meter high upright. they're really cool, I know.
10. finally, they are so good at surviving that they endure temperatures up to -30º!!
All this said, I hope you have been interested in these curiosities and now you know how to deal better with rats (they are harmless animals, remember).
give me more ideas for future vlogs in this one's comments, I love you and thank you so much for reading to the end!! ♡
