Cancellation Theory (Vs Battles)

Cancellation Theory

Cancellation Theory is a VS Battle rule/property that I have created and/or unintentionally stolen. Although a presupposition in my argument structures, I have arguments to back this ideology up (see examples).

The concept is meant to simplify VS Battles move sets for the sake of allowing more in-depth conversations about other aspects of the fights.

The Theory: Two characters with the same move, power-up, or ability may be pitted against one another as though they did not have that property. Any bonus/catch to other properties that are unique to them are still applied. This can also be used on non-mirrored properties if they are similar enough in practice. A syllogism may be needed to convince the interlocuter that two properties are similar enough to be "cancelled out".

What this means: VS Battles should focus less on mirror match scenarios and focus more on stat and mentality nuance.

Examples:

  1. Toneri Fight: Naruto's KCM and Toneri's chakra cloak allow them to be go from relative in base to relative with the power-up applied. This power-up could be negated in conversation. The non-stat benefits from the said power-ups still exist, such as the Truth-Seeking-Orb-like jutsu that Toneri has (a Naruto with his orbs would cancel out Toneri's Orbs though).
  2. Naruto vs Sasuke: In their final fight, Naruto and Sasuke are still in recoil from Hagaromo's chakra amp. These amps are seemingly the same, abilities gained aside. Their fight may be conversed about as though they weren't 6 Paths amped.
  3. Lee vs Guy: This example is a hypothetical but is the best possible example. Any bonus one gets from the Eight Gates the other gets as well. Their theoretical match up can be considered Eight-Gatesless. This doesn't account for base stats or fighting mentality.

What this really means: When engaging with a vs battle discussion, if two characters have a similar trait or ability, that specific property may be removed for the sake of getting further into nuances of the fight.
