i hate spiderman fans from atsv cus its so new and most of them already liked spiderman and thats great. But the main issue is how they treat any character who isn't Hobie brown or Miguel or basically a lot of the girls and women in the movie. Its irritating to no end because of how muhc people will hate on gwen or jessica or literally any female character and i know its a push to say its sexism when in reality people just find the male characters more attractive than the rest but the way people talk about how gwen handled her situation and how she didn't car about miles is stupid. she does care about miles but she ca't care about him and be part of something that is the only real way for her to have friends and make any sort of conection because of the trauma of her best fried dying.
And don't get me started on th shiping in the fandom and how obsessive people are when someone says they ship punkflower or flowerbyte or chaiflower or chaipunk and whatever else there is. people literally scream that you're a proshipper for shipping two characters when only one of them has a confirmed age and the other rlly ambiguous for most of the audience. Oviously except people who think they are the most morally correct and brillent person ever for not liking a popular queer ship(ik flowerbyte isnt queer but i have a point to make about it still.)
people are literally arguing about ships that do make sense and were put there so that there is a space for some romantic tension like flowerbyte but people get so mad when you ship miles with anyone other than gwen cus thats how spiderman works apparently. people are entitled to an opinion and its fine of its not the same as yours but there is a line when you just want to say you are the only correct one and the other is just being stupid.
and people being upset over trans gwen and the number of hints and flags in her dimension. like its just a semi-implied headcanon it wont bite you and shit like just calm down. countries banning the movie for that is idiotic and bigoted to say the least.

I am obsessed with the icon Hobie Brown but I agree with a lot of these points. And I feel we shouldn't fight over ships. Especially when their morally wrong. Its kinda dumb to fight over ships honestly haha

this is literally so true tbh. i genuinely hate when something starts trending and new fans get their grubby little fingers on it and treat it so like horribly. its also genuinely annoying when ppl are like "im literally spiderman" like i get that its a joke but its literally not that funny and its so basic like just say that ur a trend hopper with no personality and move on... like idk but i get the massive ick when someone says that but thats just me.

i agree so much, but i would be inclined to say that it's sexism and that it's not a push at all. favoring male characters because they're more attractive is disfavoring female characters because they're /not/ attractive. which is like. textbook sexism, that the opinions surrounding the women are on a basis of their aesthetic appeal. i think it's also a whole other problem how the male characters, especially considering a majority of them are black or people of colour (pav being desi, miguel mexican), are extremely sexualized for how they look and not much attention is being given to their *actual* character.
i never even saw what gwen did as a problem? i thought it was really reasonable? obviously i'm on miles' side but.. she was doing what she thought she had to do to survive. did people just forget that she also believed her dad was going to die too?? like miles and gwen both suffer similar fates. and peter parker did the *exact* same thing by betraying miles and i see way less hate for him. the lack of critical analysis is astounding
Thank you sm for the comment about miles too! I didnt even realise that until you pointed it out and soo many of the fans just refuse to critique their favourite characters and its ridiculous
