rant on social medias and the internet of today

recently i've been really bored and annoyed with the internet and the big social media platforms. i can't stand any of them anymore, not that i ever had much patience for much, so i'm back on spacehey.
i've always had a tendency to be aloof and apathethic to the world around me, those traits have now evolved into an almost complete disillusionment with platforms like instagram or twitter that mostly serve the purpose of showing everyone else's lives in a palatable, curated way.
i actually can't talk much about the state of twitter, since i've deleted my account years ago, but from what i've seen i don't feel enticed to go back at all. instagram, well a few years ago i also mass unfollowed and mass blocked people, so it's now a really small account, that i don't even use everyday, for me to share my photos with people i know and look mostly at tattoo artists' accounts (i only have 2, but i like tattoos as an art form).
tiktok... well, i liked it during 2020 and 2021, when it was still new to me and i was also horribly depressed (not that i'm recovered now). it is hypocritical of me to say this, i post on there kinda regularly, but that's the only fun part of it for me now. there's a few people that i follow that are creative and/or interesting, but the vast majority of videos are so boring they border on the irritating. maybe even including mine! i'm not putting that much effort into those and i certainly am not doing anything original, which is what a lot of other people do too i supose, therefore i don't blame any individuals for my view on social media.

well, that's a lie, i do blame some people, but in a different setting: fandom content. most fandom content nowadays is so stupid. i remember being a teenager of 14, 15 and 16 and fandom was so fun! now? maybe i'm older, maybe it's worse, maybe it's both, but there's rarely anything people post about my interests that i want to interact with. i like fanart, but so much is centered on ships (i'm not against shipping, it's just not something i care about enough to invest myself in more than superficially or sporadically). actually, now that i think about it, a lot of online fandom spaces nowadays are very focused on ships. i want more analysis of characters and plot, theories and rants on niche specifics parts of the stories. actually, i want GOOD analysis, because i've seen some ideas around that are simply idiotic. btw, this isn't about a specific fandom, i speak in general of the experiences i've had lately, so if you thought i was talking about one in particular, rest assured i was not.

nothing is fun anymore, everything is content to be consumed. i was still young, but i remember fun websites, flash games, creativity and aesthethics that weren't curated to be clean and unoffensive to everyone. the internet was an escape you could take from real life every once in a while when you needed a break, now the internet is barren and an extension of real life that leaves you as frustrated as you were offline. no one is anonymous, all accounts are linked to other platforms, it's a panopticon made by design.

reworking on my spacehey page was fun, i had fun doing it even tho i can't write html. i remembered why it was so fun doing this with my tumblr blog when i was 14 (i still have tumblr, but it has also changed to be more like a social media instead of a blog, the blog themes are not as appreciated anymore and there's not a culture around personalizing your page anymore). maybe i should purge my tumblr soon, prune the accounts i follow and find more interesting people to follow that will make it a better experience for me again... but i fear it's just not as fun of a website anymore no matter how i navigate it

this has been a somewhat negative post, honestly i could have and at times while writing this i wanted to be a bigger hater, but i tried not being mean

i feel the same…all of fandom nowadays is headcanons that don’t make sense and pairings that are basically crackships especially on tiktok…
