“It didn't matter in the end how old they had been, or that they were girls, but only that we had loved them, and that they hadn't heard us calling, still do not hear us, up here in the tree house, with our thinning hair and soft bellies, calling them out of those rooms where they went to be alone for all time, alone in suicide, which is deeper than death, and where we will never find the pieces to put them back together.” - The virgin Suicides
The book and movie have been on my mind for days. It’s so frustrating to see how the boys describe the Lisbon sisters. They love the idea of being the knight in shining armour and instead of helping the sisters with the loss of Cecilia and how controlling their parents are, the boys watch the girls suffer in the prison they call a home. The worst thing is they still try to figure out why the girls committed suicide when it was pretty obvious but just pretended they were saddened by this tragedy and ‘tried’ to help when in reality after they saw cecilia’s body they just walked off… what kind of help is that? Anyways I love the virgin suicides. It really shows how bonded these sisters are but damn what a tragedy.
