the "lgbtq+ community" has become the choice target of right-wing media as the bogeyman of this era. they are portrayed as an evil cabal comprised of people who all act and think alike, and are all working together to unleash the gay-virus onto impressionable children until there is no straight white cis man left. this serves multiple purposes:
1. decreasing discussions of other topics (war, climate change, poverty)
2. dehumanizing a large demographic of people and garnering public support to oppress them
3. promoting exceptionalism of "normal"/"default" people
