The Music Box II

It is truly fortunate that I managed to find it. The servants all thought I was wasting my time. An act of futility. ...None of them even remember her. How could they know what she did or didn't leave behind!? They've been my gracious caretakers for as long as I can remember, so why... Why don't they remember her? It aggravates me to no end... Did none of them speak to her? None of them reach out to her? They dismiss anything I say when I ask about her, as if the topic isn't even worth their time... But they're not bad people... I know them, I know how they act... I just don't understand...

All that matters now... Is that I found it. Her music box. The gift she gave to me after I had learned to play her favorite song. A music box that plays the same exact tune. The Ushiromiya Umbral castle doesn't have any specialists who could meticulously create such a device, nor did it in the past... She must have gone far out of her own way in order to obtain this. The song have had some sort of meaning to her, but despite all our time together... I still don't know what it's supposed to mean.

But... I can worry about that later. I'm just glad I found it, after all these years. I don't remember ever losing it, nor where I would have kept it if I never did. But it was hidden deep within the inner core of the storehouse, like a faintly beating heart in a moribund corpse, desperately trying to cling to a life that has long-since passed. But now that I have it... I can keep this heart alive for as long as I live. Yes... I could never enjoy a final duet with you, but I shall ensure the life of your treasured melody is never extinguished. It isn't much, but that is the promise I shall make to you.
