very classic trek plot! two of our guys get falsely arrested by a corrupt alien government and have to Get Out.
i really liked the opening scene of the communicator floating through the empty shuttle. ominous! shuttlepod one's sure seen a lot of damage, hasn't it.
this episode was fun. it did a good job of making you sympathize with corona. he wouldn't have done the "brutal crimes" (which are never actually specified) if he wasn't thrown into the prison system at 14 for something he didn't do. archer did too, evident by reed having to yank him into the shuttle as corona ran to the cockpit. it's a shame he burned alive and all. saw a tumblr post the other day saying trek loves to redeem its villains by killing them. this is definitely an example of that
i've been pretty irritated with archer for a while. this season he's been doing a lot of yelling at different people for different reasons. sure, some of it is for good reason, but most of the time he doesn't come off as righteous, he comes off as a manbaby. it's grating, and i don't know why they thought it was a good idea to make the show's closest thing to a main character so obnoxious. anyhow, i say this because i actually liked archer a lot in this episode. he did his usual improv shtick, but he's getting better at it. i liked seeing his conflict between saving his and trip's own skin, wanting to help corona because of what he'd been through, and keeping all the other people on the transport alive. if enterprise hadn't shown up when they did, he and trip would've been left to die with everyone else. but he wasn't getting off unless everyone got off.
also it was neat seeing archer and trip in their leather jackets and such. they certainly looked like smugglers, ha
