Well to put it simply back in June of 1969 when it was illegal to be gay in 49 of the 50 states there was this gay bar called the Stonewall Inn. Police raided this bar and tried to arrest the people in there for being gay and for cross-dressing. The people inside fought back when the police got violent and the resulting riots were a big historic thing for LGBT+ rights. So now every June LGBT+ people commemorate that event and celebrate themselves etc. Showing pride in who you are and refusing to back down is especially relevant now with the anti-LGBT+ movement that's been spreading across the US.
