It's no secret anymore that Dan Schneider, the creator of ICarly, was a huge creep. If you go through his backlog of tweets on his account and the ICarly account it's crazy that he flew under the radar for so damn long. When I was around 6 I remember watching ICarly a lot with my brother and my cousin, I loved the show, but I just can't get myself to rewatch it. Just knowing the weird shit that was going on behind the scenes gives the whole show a really weird and uncomfortable air while trying to rewatch it.
I used to be surprised when I first heard about the whole situation a year ago, but why was I even surprised? The film and television industry being corrupt and creepy? That's totallllyyy unheard of. It's sad that this kind of stuff isn't surprising or uncommon anymore. It really says a lot about how bad these industries and stuff are now.
The worst part about the situation with Dan Schneider is that Nickelodeon was for sure covering it up. There's no chance they saw some of the tweets that were being made and some of the segments on the show and thought nothing bad of it. Not only was ignoring this issue bad for letting it continue to happen, but, It was also endangering kids in the process. In Jennette McCurdy's memoir she mentioned that she was often shouted at as a kid actor and treated weirdly, and I don’t doubt it, this image is of her when she was a kid and just look at the way Dan is holding her, it’s weird and she looks uncomfortable as hell https://imgur.com/a/weUeygB.
It's not just her either, there’s also a video showing some of the weird stuff that Ariana Grande had to endure throughout filming too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9MEkI3pAgs https://imgur.com/a/QTb1s0f.

Ever since the initial news about Schnieder's actions came out, more and more horrible revelations have been coming to light. Whether it's present in his works like priolonged uncomfortable fetish-y segments in his shows or inscrutably disgusting behaviour like verbally abusing his child actors or even asking underage girls to massage him over text, there seems to be no end to his disgusting actions. The most frightening thing about this is the amount of power he had over such a large group of young, impressionable children. He was, in all contexts, their boss, and the confusion and self-hatred that he must have ingrained in them is something that they'll never be able to escape. Jennette McCurdy's book must have been a breath of fresh air for these actors, and I hope it encourages more victims of Schnieder's abuse to come forward.
