overall rating: pretty cool/liked it
Glockoma
2 wasn't really on my radar at all - I got it as one of those
notifications from Spotify. I was interested soon as I saw the cover and
the tone of the album matches pretty well: the beats are generally dark
and maybe horror-inspired.
"Dirt" (prod.
King Ceeo) is a fantastic introduction to this record and it has some of
Key Glock's strongest rapping. While I don't recognize the sample, it's
haunting to listen to, especially with strings that we hear throughout.
"Work" is even grittier and darker. It's the first of several Bandplay
produced songs on the album (it kind of sounds like there's Mongolian
throat singing on here?) and in my opinion it's the best one.
Worst thing I could say about this album is it could get a little repetitive. If you really
like Key Glock it works because there isn't a boring song on here, but
as an album the flows could get tired toward the middle. It picks up
around "Ratchet" (another Bandplay track) but man...I'm just really glad
I got that far. Another track worth naming is "Designer Down" (produced
by Bankroll Got It) because I feel like it explicitly sounds inspired
by a Three 6 Mafia song.
Overall the beats are
the star on this album, but if I had to list my favorite bar it would
be: "My auntie seen my Jesus piece and she said, "Goddamn, holy shit""
(on Homicide Gvng).
Last thing I have to
say: it's no features on this album, and I'm not sure if it would gain
from any. I'm looking forward to revisiting this in a week.
