Yesterday I came home late, so I forgot to make a blog entry. So, my CAP squadron does this event on the fifth Friday of a month (should there be one), called the "night hawk". It's a barbeque in the hangar. It was a lot of fun, and the food tasted delicious. We had a good turnout, and a lot of people didn't know that I had officially joined, so they were happy for me when they found out.
It felt really great. After all of the bad stuff I had read about the Civil Air Patrol online, I am so glad that I decided to check it out regardless. I guess it just goes to show that you can't really go by everything you read on the internet. People are more willing to share their bad experiences than good ones.
All of this just feels like it's fallen perfectly into place. All of the complaints about Civil Air Patrol come from the side of it that works with kids (unsurprisingly), since like half of the organization is just an aerospace-themed boy scouts. The real fun is where you're in the other half of it that actually owns the planes and does the missions.
And just my luck, my squadron is just that. They're always getting called on these big fancy missions, and there are a lot of in-person trainings and classes being offered around here.
At the end of the June, there's going to be a mission scanner ground school being offered nearby, so if I'm lucky, I'll be done with all of the prerequisite training by then. I've got my fingers crossed for that one! I'll actually be able to start flying on missions once I do that! I mean, as long as it isn't a hundred degrees outside, of course.
