I just talked about Bojack, but I don't care. I'm gonna talk more about this series because I love it to death and will love it till death
This may sound unrelated at first but It'll loop back around to Bojack, promise! I hate child actors, more so the concept. It's no secret that child actors are often not very good at their job, and can you blame them? they're kids, they don't have as much experience as older actors and sometimes that lead to relentless mocking, harassment, bullying etc. An example of this would be the situation with Jake Lloyd being bullied out of acting as a kid https://imgur.com/a/HjrJvky.
Obviously as a show with 6 seasons Bojack has a few characters which are kids, however. Knowing the amount of issue that happen to child actors, the creator made a conscious choice to make the kids in the show be voice acted by young sounding adults. This is a small detail but it really shows how much the creator payed attention to the small details like this. Bojack has a character that is one big commentary on the rough lives that child actors/ child pop sensations go through in their later years, and knowing it'd be hypocritical if they did the same thing they're criticizing they refused to hire actors that were kids. I love that about this show.
I've been passionate about the topic of child actors and how its such a messed up part of film for a while now, and that's why Sarah Lynn is my favorite character in the whole show. The commentary that her character has about how the lives of young actors are often rocky is great, An example of the commentary. So is the commentary of young popstars being thrown to the curb once they age just the slightest bit. That issue is still prevalent too in this day, just in slightly different ways. Sarah Lynn has by far my favorite story/arc in the series so far, and even though I'm still midway through the series, I can't see that changing in the next few seasons because of how good it is

This is something I've thought on for a long time.
I always wanted to be an actor when I was a kid, but I'm glad I waited it out now. The way children are treated by the media is absolutely appalling, especially with the introduction of the internet. Unsolicited anonymous messages are so common while using social media, even when you don't have a platform of any kind - to see what kind of abhorrent messages child stars receive would no doubt be mentally scarring. It's insane what people will say even when they aren't anonymous. I'm so thankful I didn't have to experience fame as a child, and I don't doubt the detrimental effects that would linger well into adulthood.
