The Furality shader dropped yesterday so I finally went and made the first draft of the version of Aroo I'll be using this Furality Sylva! Furality is a VRChat furry convention. Let's analyze from the ground up, shall we?
Firstly, I made some assets of my own just for fun! (This entire model was made by me from scratch, so, there definitely aren't premade assets that would work with it.) I made a harness and a cape! Normally, Aroo is naked. The cape is to match the clothing style of Sylva and the harness is just a cute easy to make accessory that I will eventually pin the badge asset to, as otherwise it'd kinda just be stuck to their skin? But yeah! I didn't have a badge last year. But this year I know more about how VRChat works, so I'll do that.
Next, I put this new version into a fresh VCC project or whatever and got to work re-doing some things I hadn't perfected before, namely PhysBones. PhysBones are, well, basically they're bones that have physics on them I guess. If I set the tail to have PhysBones for example, then the tail will automatically waggle around as I move! I set the new cape rig to flap around, and this time I added LIMITS to the movement to prevent it from clipping into the back. I also added limits to some other bits that didn't have them before. And, very importantly, I realized that I needed a radius on my bones for collision to work! So, now all my PhysBones have a radius. Also, I added a plane to the floor with a collider so that my tail doesn't clip into the floor.
So TL;DR, my cape, tail, antennae, and ears flop around when I move and if someone grabs at them they'll be able to grab and move them!
Now, onto the SYLVA SHADER! So, so fancy! Firstly, the actual shading. It gives some crisp cel shading but also has softer shadows for things further off.
Then there's some FUN SHIT. I set the cape to be HOLOGRAPHIC! Like, it even changes depending on the angle you're looking at it from! I'm gonna amp it up a bit as its pretty subtle in-game. But man, it's cool. There's also SPARKLES. I didn't figure out how to make them work til after I recorded the gifs you'll see later. And I set them to be so subtle, that they don't show up in any gifs that I make! So, I guess I'll have to make a video of this avatar eventually.
And, finally... RAINBOWS!! I fucked with my emission map and made it have some effects to it, and now my glowing bits strobe! I THINK that I pressed the right buttons to make these colors link up to the Sylva world's audio and move with the beat of music, buuut can't exactly test that out rn can I!

And because I've already gotten comments on this, YES, Aroo does have fucked up proportions. They're an alien! They're basically from a species of snake-weasels that have huge hands to dig into the dirt and create their own cave systems.
But yeah I'll finish this off within the next few days. But I'm glad I have the base version down now. I'll make another post if I add the attendee assets. Still gotta help my bf with his avatar so I can't get too into just adding fancy stuff to my own stuff.
