Bembidion Brownorium

In March 2023, UC Berkeley entomologist Kipling Will discovered a specimen of Bembidion Brownorum near a creek Brown's ranch in Colusa country. The last time these species were found was in 1966, it hasn't been named until recent rediscovery after 55 years. The name 'Bembidion Brownorum' was named after Brown (a former governor of California) and his wife, Anne Brown. The beetle has a glowy-green colour and a metallic colour look, and it is larger than any other Bembidion species. According to Will, the species collapse is likely during the second half of the 20th century, driven out by its natural habitat due to rapid urbanization and agriculture.

I personally find it amazing, that there are still many species yet to be discovered but sadly, due to active climate change, rapid urbanization, and agriculture, the chances of discovering them are small as their population has seized, thus becoming harder to know more about their survival and places where they flourish in, and by the time when we do ever discover them, it might be too late to preserve them.
