I realized a huge plot hole with my ocs at 1 a.m. last night

Okay, I decided I will blog about my OCs a little bit. They're just too important an aspect of my life to NOT spam them. First off, if you want an intro, just go browse my ArtFight account. That place is perfect to link all year honestly because its a quick intro and reference to my ocs PLUS it has my boundaries regarding gift art.

I'm specifically thinking about my sci-fi characters. Especially Damian, since he's the main guy. I'll just put his ref here.

Reference sheet for a character named Damian Forsythe. He is a human with fangs, fur, claws, and a tail. His skin is brown and his hair is black. There is a render of him full clothed with his prosthetic arm on, one with him almost-nude without his prosthetic, one of his bare back showing off his stripes, one of his hands showing how his claws appear, and a stylized depiction of the stripes on his back.Damian is from my hard science-fiction story. "Hard" in this case means I'm a petty little cinemasins bitch about it being realistic. So, let me describe the basic inciting backdrop of my story and see if you catch it.

Damian is a gene-modded human who was living on Earth until at around 20 years old he lost his arm in an accident. He retreated and self-isolated through taking on a job that required little human contact for several years. Eventually, his employer told him about a fancy new project that involves living on an alien planet and researching it, a project that needed a person like Damian on the team, as he is very intelligent when it comes to hardware and machine repair. Damian, 25 years old now, takes the opportunity, using it as a chance to be part of something bigger than him without exactly going back to the life he had before, and after ~9 months of traveling in a sort of cryo-sleep he arrives on the alien planet and then the plot begins.

Did you catch it? The oversight that calls the entire time frame of my story & all of the characters ages into question?

He starts off on Earth. And after 9 months of travel, reaches an alien planet.

It takes over one light year just to leave our own solar system.

So, how he hell does a spacecraft *much slower* than the speed of light reach an exoplanet in LESS time that that? When the nearest real life exoplanet is 4 light years away?

That's because it doesn't, it can't, so its time to change things up. I think the time spent traveling to this fictional planet at less-than-light-speed will actually be 5 years. Now, this cryo-sleep thing that they have, it actually isn't that fancy. It's more like a medically induced coma used to keep everyone packed into little pods so that its cheaper and easier to build spacecrafts. So what I'm saying is, all of these characters will still age PHYSICALLY even though mentally they're all still stuck at the age they were when they started. Because, you know, you can't mentally mature if you're not experiencing life. And they arent experiencing life while asleep for those years.

So yeah combining all of that together means that I need to age Damian up to being 30. I already draw him actually looking like an adult, so I don't think I need to change his design to compensate for this? I may add like one single bit of wrinkles to his face but thats it. I'm going to have to fight with my inner demons to not add more just to make him look hotter, though.

All the other characters will be aged up too as a result but I haven't drawn them as much so thats fine. Ok bye.
