A friend of mine commented on my bulletin and mentioned scene culture being infantilized/kid-ified and I've been thinking about it since, when scene was at it's peak it was nowhere NEAR kid friendly with songs like "Alcohol", "Take Your Shirt Off", "Scene Girlz", "Yellow Bus" etc...BrokenCYDE, Jeffree Star and Millionaires ruled the scene.
Nowadays the mainstream media calls it "scenecore" and center it around Invader Zim and some blue haired girl with pigtails...almost everyone there is so chronically online and would probably find BrokenCYDE offensive (rofl), it's been watered down and turned into something entirely different, and it's not just scene kids.
What's been done to emos is even worse, with the rise of "E-kids" emo has become an insult. Anyone who wears black is taunted for being emo, people have been bullied off the internet, barked at on the streets, bullied into su1c1d3.. it's so relentless and uncalled for. while emo did keep part of it's origins, it's been villianized and alienated even more than it was.
Some insight of my personal experience: I've been barked at on the streets, made comments at, stared and giggled at. I'm out on a shelf for everyone to view and criticize, I guess some people just lose their shit when you're a little different than them.

I AGREE SM!! I'm a scene kid (well try to be atleast) and tiktok has watered it down so much people have basically turned it into decora :( nobody even notices real scene queens either!!! They just focus on these weird colourful teenagers who straightened their hair once and put a band shirt. Band shirts are fine but atleast do them right!!

I recently realized all those girls who were asking where I got my backpack and shirts and the guys saying hi to me in the hallway were actually making fun of me ?? Apparently this one guy said I dress weird as hell and he wants to beat me up xD he talks a lot for someone who looks like Mr. Crocker from Fairy Oddparents

I'm emo and I hate the e-kids thing so much 1st of all they dont look emo at all emo is stuck in 2000s so term "modern emo" doesnt make any sense BECAUSE EMO IS SUPPOESTED TO BE STUCK IN 2000s 2nd of all you have to listen to emo usic to be emo. Looking alternatvie doesnt make you emo

And don't even get me started on what they turned goths into...goth is a music based subculture yet due to mainstream media I get asked if I'm goth for wearing some bracelets and band shirts,, I'm more scene than emo although I do a lot of crossovers (I like emo music so some emo band shirts and I usually follow color schemes so the bracelets and belt match) and I've been called goth and an Egirl in emo clothes and some 7th grader tiktok alts (Mother Mother, 100gecs, cavetown kids) refer to me as kidcore when I dress scene like I normally do which is kinda meh but they think I'm the coolest bitch in school (like they whisper all excited when I walk by n I heard them say "omg her outfit is so cool" or "goals" a few times, 1 of them has me saved as "cool 9th grader" <3,, plus they're super nice and they know The Used and KoRn so I think they'll grow out their tiktok phase and become actually cool)

I'm a scene and emo kid (more emo than scene tho) and I hate the tiktok "emo e-kids" and the "scenecore kids".
I kinda hate it when people call the tiktok e-kids/alt kids emo... I hate it, I really, really do, and idky lol.
I also hate it when the scenecore kids say they like Invader Zim (mainly Gir) because of it being associated with scenecore. I like Invader Zim, not because I'm scene or because of scenecore, but because I actually like and enjoy the show. These scenecore kids are just makin' it all about Gir.
Now, I like Gir, he's one of my favourite characters, but c'mon it's not all about the lil robot.
Sometimes I'm afraid that I'll get called a poser, or if someone tries to explain to me what real scene/emo is because they think I'm a "scenecore kid" just because I like Invader Zim and wear a Gir hoodie.
Idk what else to say, lol.

Some 7th graders in my school r kinda Tiktok alt (100gecs, mother mother etc..) and they refered to me as kidcore once,, they're still cooler than most other kids here though and they know The Used and KoRn so I'll take what I can get xD and ty !!
