Field of Study

Biology is the study of life. It has many different applications and a lot of subdivisions. Zoology is one of them. In Zoology there is a specific focus on the animal kingdom. This includes animals living today and ones that have gone extinct. The study of these organisms is not always limited to just them, but how their existence affects the ecosystem in which they live and how changes in their ecosystems can affect them. Zoology has many subdivisions, and those subdivisions can easily be broken down even further. It could take years to go into them all. With a zoology degree, a person can become many different things, a zoologist, a primary care doctor, a zookeeper, a veterinarian, a wildlife biologist, and much more. It is an incredibly versatile major. Currently, warmer winters in New England have led to a population boom in the tick population there (1). This has had a drastic effect on the moose population. Adult moose can often handle a few more ticks than normal, but their offspring cannot. Especially with the decreased availability of food in the winter. Scientists up there are are currently studying the effect this tick boom is having on the moose.
