I have finally made my triumphant return from the long-awaited Bakersfield Anime Convention known by no other name than Bakanime! As you are already keenly and cruelly aware, I went as the illustriously renowned Emiya Shirou, alongside my acquaintance from Los Angeles, who accompanied me whilst cosplaying as Rin Tohsaka. Keheheh... She's actually the one made all this possible... Her skills in the artistic arts are second to none, and as such, she was able to make fine work of a relatively cheap wig that I ordered... Don't look at me like that! The royal budget is tight from all the quality, enticing gacha characters that have been released recently! I couldn't afford a triple digit cost wig!
...Anyhow, we enjoyed a most wonderful time together, although she did have her complaints... We actually ventured to the previous year's Bakanime, and while I found this year's convention to be incredibly enjoyable on its own, there is no denying that the budget has certainly taken a hit... However, such consequences bear little weight on my conscious. I go to these conventions in order to fraternize with other like-minded individuals whilst simultaneously concealing my true identity as their future dark lord... Keheheh, I can only imagine the looks of unimaginable shock and reverence upon their faces if they ever learned the truth, that caliginous royalty walks amongst them all...
Beyond mingling with other otaku (a Japanese word for dedicated individuals with obscure media interests), I experienced limitless jubilation seeing all the wonderful cosplays of the people around me. I saw numerous Genshin Impact cosplayers, whom I made great strides to approach in order to bathe them in compliments in regards to both their costumes and their tastes in games. There were also quite a few Danganronpa cosplayers, one of whom was cosplaying Chiaki Nanami, and relentlessly and brutally stomping on a stuffed Monomi plush. It was actually rather upsetting, if I'm being honest.
Unfortunately, there was not much in the way of quality merchandise to be purchased. Innumerable stickers, outfits, plushes, and props from - pardon my language - normie media such as Dragon Ball, Naruto, and Demon Slayer adorned the indoor convention stalls of the Artist Alley. Regardless of the quality of these shows, I am ever on the prowl for merchandise from media as obscure as the murky depths of the Onigafuchi swamp... Speaking of Higurashi, the one object I purchased happened to be a pair of stickers featuring Keiichi Maebara and Rena Ryuugu, two of my favorite characters from the novel. Although, in such a masterclass work of art such as Higurashi, attempting to pick a favorite character is ludicrously difficult. I've spent my time ever since tirelessly brainstorming the optimal location to place these stickers within my car, but I have yet to reach a satisfying conclusion...
