What if todayโs the day I stop worrying about everyone else? What if I finally have enough courage to tell you the million and one thing I have been dying every day to tell you? Instead of watching on the sidelines the way I do. Itโs hard to see you fall for someone thatโs not right for you, only for you to get hurt in the end. Why canโt you see that you belong with me?
Brushing the hair strands off my face, I stretched out of bed and swung my legs to the side. Before I could even check my cell phone, I looked out the window and saw you standing so effortlessly. Our windows were directly across from one another since we were little kids. I explicitly recall the time we rode our bikes down to Little Creek with such excitement every day after we would arrive home from a hard dayโs work of elementary school.
God, you are so mesmerising.
Blinking away, I waved at you with a gentle smile while you returned the favour. Removing myself away from the window, I quickly changed my clothes. Tonight was the dance that everyone was looking forward to and I had never been to one before. You told me months prior to today that you couldnโt wait to go to this thing. I always thought low of them until you expressed it became one of ย your biggest interests; dancing.
Smiling the thought away, I heard my phone instantly ding to inform me you had texted. But my hands were busy with dressing up for the special occasion. Walking over to my nightstand, I read your message about how you had a surprise tonight and that it was going to be big. I couldnโt imagine what that would be. Were you going to ask me to accompany you?
Knowing you well enough, I didnโt think to question. You love to keep your secrets to yourself and I didnโt mind that. Sometimes surprises are good, others could be questionable. But thatโs just how life is. It can be fair and ย sometimes, itโs completely the opposite. Instead of trying to figure you out, I replied back, โWhatever it is, Iโm sure youโre happy for it to happen, am I right?โ After I pressed SEND, I saw those three little bubbles appear, informing that you were typing but it quickly faded. Clicking my phone screen off, I threw it gently on my bed, continuing to dress up enough for you. This isnโt my thing, itโs yours. However, I donโt mind doing it because it makes you happy and thatโs the only thing that courses through my mind.
Your happiness.

Checking myself once, twice, thrice in the mirror, I felt satisfied with my wardrobe choice that was meant to appeal you. I wanted to stand out โ for you. I wore a black corset vest, trying to think outside the box and stop being an average Joe to you. My hair was raked over the side just how you told me you liked it. I even bought a corsage for you, not even too sure if I was going to make such bold moves on you. How could I? You are so intimidating; it petrifies me to the core.
Shaking my head, I sighed, feeling drubbed on all levels. Reaching towards my phone, I dialed one of my best and trusted friends who understood my situation.
โSugarplum, I was just about to call you!โ Rosemary spoke with ecstatic and excitement. But the moment I sighed heavily on the phone, she instantly knew something was wrong. Without giving me the chance to speak up, she spoke firmly. โI just finished getting ready and Iโm on my way. Iโll be there soon and please unlock your front door so I donโt have to kick it down.โ I couldnโt help but to curve my lips into a sly smile. Rosemary knew quick remedies to help pull me back to where I was supposed to be.
โThank you,โ I said with such softness in my voice. โI appreciate you more than you know.โ
โI know you do.โ And with that, she abruptly hung up. She never did tell me โgoodbyeโ on the phone because we both agreed it wasnโt acceptable. When you say that word to someone, it sounds like you will never come back. So we choose not to.

โGet your sexy ass up from that bed right now before I drag you out.โ Rosemary stood in the doorway with her hands crossed over her chest. โIf he isnโt going to be your date, you know damn well I am going to be.โ I opened my eyes and darted them up at her flawless self. She wore a gorgeous, sleeveless, scarlet dress that was close enough to her body, hair curled, makeup on point to match the colours, and black, strapped heels as the finishing touch.
โRosie, you look amazing. I just donโt think I can go and do this.โ I said as I sat up from my depressive state of moment.
โSave your compliments for someone who really needs them, Honey. I know I look amazing.โ She did a hair flip, topping it off with a beautiful smile. Then she finally proceeded with her speech, taking my hands in hers to try and comfort me. โYouโve been waiting to tell this man that you are in love with him for five years, and tonightโs the perfect night to tell him. All of those written and rewritten love letters you saved in your little box of memories hidden under your bed that I'm not really supposed to know about, all of the tears, blood, sweat, and sleepless nights are going to ย finally pay off if you would just go to this dance and tell the man how you really feel.โ Licking her lips, we both locked eyes with one another for a moment in time. โYou know Iโm right about this.โ Thinking as hard as I was about this, I couldnโt avoid the irrefutable truth.

โBut what if I mess up or make a mistake?โ I asked with such concern. Rosemary smiled and lowered her voice into a sweet whisper. โThatโs the best part about being a human. You make mistakes over and over again. Life is nothing but trial and error. Take those leaps of faith when itโs presented to you, for you never know when you have the second chance.โ

Wow!!! Where's the rest? And what are the lyrics that you use as interludes? Those caught my attention right away.
