Forget the Haters!

In the recent past, I received disturbing feedback to my various writings in the form of rambling messages laden with baseless accusations and overt racism. In one case, an offensive note directed me to a website that was filled with even greater amounts of mindless hatred. Clearly, some people have too much time on their hands and too much negativity to contain!

I fail to understand how people filled with unbridled hatred could send such notes to me with the implicit expectation of seeing their handiwork presented here or in any other blog or forum I control. My blogs and forum posts are meant to inform, entertain, and spur intelligent thought. They are not platforms or openings for the expression of hatred or intolerance. They are not launching pads for unfounded conspiracy theories. They are not feeding grounds for fear and suspicion.

As a writer, I fully expect my readers to have wildly different opinions. I expect views from the Left, the Right, and the almost non-existent Center. I expect emotional replies and well-reasoned commentary. I expect many things, and I welcome those who are positive and constructive just as strongly as I reject those who expect their hatred to be reflected here.

I can’t control who reads my blogs or posts. However, I am able to determine which comments live on and which ones find a quick death. Hatred will never come from me, and I will never allow hatemongers to spread their vitriol. I make this promise now, and I will honor it with everything I post.
