I decided to write about the movies I've watched and how they made me feel oh and also what I think about them. I will make this a series if I keep watching movies lol. So let's begin!
Tom is a hopeless romantic and can be lost in his idea world. I don't think that he likes Summer for who she is. In fact he doesn't even know who she is. He just sees her as his ideal dream girl and when asked what he likes about her, he gives superficial answers like her heart shaped birthmark and the way her knees are shaped. He doesn't say anything about her interests, her future plans and dreams or her thoughts and beliefs. As for Summer she has been hurt in the past thus she has some fears involving commitment. I don't think that she's in the wrong for "leading" Tom on. She stated her expectations about their relationship/situationship from the very beginning but Tom didn't listen. Tom was being childish and selfish when it came to Summer. He was really hurt by what happened but I think that he is to blame for his pain for not listening to Summer's warnings.
Though I think that he was in the wrong... I relate to Tom. I know how easy it can be to dive into those fantasies and fall in love with the idea of people. It's hard not to after being told your entire life that soulmates exist and one day you are to find that special person who will make everything better and cure your suffering. It's easy to be fooled by such a fantasy and as Summer says "There's no such thing as love. It's a fantasy." They were brought up differently so it makes sense that one believes in the soulmate bs and the other doesn't. Especially since Summer comes from a broken family it's clear why she thinks that way. I also think that Tom could've enjoyed the time they had together without trying to get Summer to commit.
Overall this movie reminds me of a situationship I had and it made me realize how much like Tom I was. Also, what I learnt is... see people for who they are, don't give into your imagination and LISTEN TO THE FUCKING WARNINGS.

I'd like to watch this film for myself so I can get my own opinion, but from what I read from you, I agree that Tom is at fault here. SHE EVEN SAID SHE WASN'T INTERESTED
Anyway, I think that all of us fall victim to Tom's position with relationships (both non-romantically and romantically) from time to time.
